Milk Bath Butterfly Shoot

I saw this photoshoot idea on TikTok a few weeks ago and immediately knew I had to try it. I spent a while doing research for styling - lots of people use flowers, but fresh flowers weren't in the budget this week and I read that faux flowers sink too quickly. I did, however, have a pack of faux monarch butterflies picked up from Micheals with vague plans for putting them in my hair for a forest shoot.

I was inspired quite a bit by this photo by (as far as I can tell from a quick Goog) Jovana Rikalo. I also saw people using citrus! I'm definitely revisiting this one with some tweaks. I waited until a wash day for my hair and then just cleansed and conditioned as usual (click here for my wash day routine & favorite products) and I didn't notice any difference in my curls.

Tips:

- I used about half a gallon of regular whole milk from the fridge, but I would assume plant milks work well too - test a small amount for separation or clumping in the warm water. And believe me, you want it to be warm.

- Wear earplugs if you get ear infections easily. I had trapped water in my ear all evening (this is why I don't put my head underwater!)

- White or light clothes look so beautiful once they soak through! I want to try this again with a flowy white or pink dress, I think it would be gorgeous swirling around in the water. My bodysuit is from H&M but not available online (similar).
